A central figure of contemporary architecture and design, Gae Aulenti lent herself to the opera for a series of performances, often in collaboration with Luca Ronconi, which would became legendary. The repertory she tackled on the stage of La Scala ranges from Rossini to Stockhausen, Rimski-Korsakov to Berg, climaxing with Richard Strauss’s famous Elektra (1994) set inside the icy walls of a sacrificial slaughterhouse: always with the style of sober elegance and volumetric  rigour which distinguish Gae Aulenti in every discipline.
