An icon of the Italian musical avant-garde, Sylvano Bussotti (1931) is an exceptionally versatile artist: composer, poet, director, set and costume designer, actor, writer, painter, filmmaker and exhibition curator. For La Scala he staged Le Racine (Pianobar for Phaedra), a free-spirited reinterpretation of the Greek myth set in a night club, and Cristalli di rocca, inspired by the Romantic author Stifter’s short story. The extremely refined draughtsmanship, the subtle experiments in fabrics and styles, the quest for the beautiful form and the harmony of the stage pictures, reveal the classicism of this innovator.
