Swiss by birth and sense of precision, cosmopolitan by her cultural background, Margherita Palli is a central presence in the Italian theatre. With Luca Ronconi (“the mind of which I am the arm”), she signed a series of performances where imagination and playfulness merge with a highly disciplined use of the scenographic vocabulary and a constantly renewed taste for material. On the stage of La Scala the artist showered the horn of plenty of her inventions onto works by Weber, Cherubini, Berlioz, Strauss and many others, emphasising the theatre fiction to convey an extremely refined intellectual delight but also a childish fancy and a modern fairyland poetry.
