Before departing for Brazil young Gianni Ratto (Milan 1916–San Paolo 2005) signed for Milan sets and costumes for productions which became legendary. He participated with Strehler in the opening of the Piccolo Teatro (L’albergo dei poveri by Gorky, 1947) and the golden period of the reopening of La Scala after the war, making his debut with La Traviata in 1947. His airy stage architectures, his colour sign touched by grace, his luminous aesthetic bring his charm back to life today.
