Theatre and cinema are the two fields in which Piero Tosi (Sesto Fiorentino 1927) concentrated the early years of his activity. After a while the screen absorbed him full time as a costume designer with his legendary collaborations with Visconti, Fellini, Bolognini, Zeffirelli, Liliana Cavani. At La Scala in 1955 young Tosi created a highly refined and innovative performance, still remembered by all: he did the costumes and sets of La Sonnambula by Bellini with Maria Callas, directed by Luchino Visconti and conducted by Leonard Bernstein.
