From her very debut at the Teatro alla Scala in 1965 with Francesca da Rimini by Tchaikovsky, the universe of dance proved to be the chosen field of Luisa Spinatelli (born 1941). A highly versatile set and costume designer, she has worked with the greatest étoiles, from Carla Fracci to Luciana Savignano, from Rudolf Nureyev to Roberto Bolle, establishing a long, enduring relationship with the Milanese theatre: almost sixty years of continuous collaboration in the repertoire of both opera and ballet. Trained by Tito Varisco, Luisa Spinatelli acquired a detailed understanding of techniques, theatrical tricks, working methods, workshop organisation and practical solutions to enable singers and dancers to move freely, and has placed this knowledge at the service of her insatiable research into chromatic relationships and stage space, in a refined synthesis of abstract rigor and figurative flow.
